Lost Avantgarde

The Art House at Nikischplatz 1900-1943

Studio Exhibition June 24 – October 16, 2016
Opening: Thursday, June 23, 2016, 6pm

The exhibition evokes an almost forgotten era of Leipzig's urban and cultural history: It tells the story of an unusual house at Nikischplatz, starting with the formation of its striking architecture and continuing with the heyday of the artistic as well as glamorous life happening inside its walls. The journey through the past is then continued by the disintegration during the National Socialist barbarism and comes to an end with the destruction in the hail of bombs of 1943. Photographs, posters, paintings, drawings and graphic prints, inventory of the Stadtgeschichtliche Museum as well as items on loan, give account of bold ideas and lavish celebrations.
