2/1556 The foundation stone of the Altes Rathaus is laid at the corner Markt/Salzgässchen

Roof truss is completed
 
9/1556 The arches are rented out for the Feast of St. Michael only eight months after construction began

Completion of the Ratsstube (Council Chamber)

Completion of the exterior

Completion of the interior and decoration of all the rooms

The tower receives an open balcony for public announcements and events

Construction of an opening for the town pipers just above the balcony

First renovation; the building receives an inscription which runs all around the sides of the building

The height of the tower is increased and the tower receives a baroque dome

Conversion into Stadtgeschichtliches Museum begins

On 3 December, the roof is completely destroyed by fire as a result of a heavy bomb attack on Leipzig; the ferro-concrete attic floor averts further damage

Restaurant “Lotter & Widemann” is created along with a museum shop and other stores, and an elevator is installed
