Pictures of a City

Kurt Dornis

Studio exhibition
6th October – 28th November 2010
Opening: Tuesday, 5th October, 6:00 pm

The artist, who was born in Silesia in 1930, studied with Walter Münze and Max Schwimmer and has lived in Leipzig and worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist since 1952. In addition to other subjects, he has frequently concentrated on the Leipzig cityscape, which he manages to capture with his very own unique style, comprising objectivity and distance, since the 1950's. The Plagwitz district holds a special fascination for him, as he depicts it again and again. In Kurt Dornis’ oeuvre, bridges, railway lines and backyards are shown in unusual, slanted perspectives; details of roof landscapes and architectural subjects gain a life of their own, full of melancholy or even surreal power. The Museum of City History is dedicating a studio exhibition to the artist on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
