Karicartoon 7th Biennial Exhibition of Satirical Drawings, Leipzig 2009 27th May – 19th July 2009 The 7th Biennial Exhibition of Satirical Drawings, Leipzig - "Karicartoon 2009" will, as usual, be very much concerned with the contemporary and, at the same time, it will have a special focus under the heading "Time leaps". In addition to the current biennial exhibition, in which twelve well-known and popular cartoonists of today mercilessly show who is to blame for the financial crisis, the climate catastrophe, citizens’ disenchantment with politics and marital disputes, an exclusive guest country was invited to this exhibition: the GDR. Visitors to the exhibition (who will obtain a one-day visa at the reception) can investigate the question as to whether satire and courage really have sufficient power to change the course of history, 20 years after the Peaceful Revolution. Drawings by twenty of the most renowned and celebrated cartoonists of the last years of the GDR will accompany the visitors on this retrospective tour. In addition to this, there is a special exhibition entitled "Between the End and the Beginning" by Klaus Vonderwerth, a particularly critical and intelligent caricaturist of the times of political change, whose comments on the most topical issues between November 1989 and October 1991 seem like a trip into the past on the one hand, and which, on the other hand, have, to some degree, not lost any of their topicality in the intervening 20 years. A catalogue is to be published for the exhibition. |
