showing the main features and stages of development in 150 years of gymnastics and sports.

The collections featuring the workers’ sports movement and the history of the Turnfest gymnastics festival in Germany are unique, as is the collection of textiles, sports equipment and memorabilia from well-known sports people.

The rarities include:

  • parallel bars from 1870,
  • the world’s first hollow oar (1895),
  • the road bike on which Gustav-Adolf “Täve” Schur won the World Championships (1958)

The Library

The museum also includes a specialist library of around 4000 volumes going back to the beginning of the 19th century.

Collections and library can be accessed on Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
