Silver on glass. Leipzig Photography Studio Hermann Walter 1913 – 1935

11th December 2019 – 2nd August 2020
Opening: 10th December 2019, 18:00
Haus Böttchergäßchen, Böttchergäßchen 3, 04109 Leipzig

The photographs by the famous city photographer Hermann Walter are referred to as a “glass treasure”. Following his death in 1909, the studio continued using its original name under Karl Walter and Bernhard Müller.
Between 1913 and 1935, far more than two thousand pictures were taken – which have been almost unknown until today. Cityscapes, architectural photographs, company portraits and the documentation of important contemporary construction projects testify impressively to Leipzig’s transformation into a modern city.

The new acquisitions made by the museum in recent years are presented here for the first time.
