The move from Kuchengartenstraße to Grünau. A photographic documentation by Karla Voigt

From 1979 to 1981, the photographer Karla Voigt documented the move of a housing community from a building in an absolutely desolate condition in the eastern suburb of Leipzig to the district of Leipzig-Grünau, which was under construction at the time, in the framework of her thesis at HGB, the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig. This social-history documentation focuses on people with their desires and wishes who maintained their long-established social bonds also in their new environment.

In this project, the entire process was artistically and historically documented from the cornerstone ceremony in 1976, to planning the move and, finally, the move into the new apartments in image and text using the contemporary means of expression.
