13.04. - 23.10.2022
Böttchergäßchen Building, Böttchergäßchen 3, 04109 Leipzig

Everyone has already held them in their hands – but few know their origins: dice. As one of the oldest artefacts involved in human game playing culture, dice look back on a 5000-year history.

The exhibition »The World as a Die – 5000 Years of Luck in Games« takes visitors on a fascinating journey through time: right from the future, back to the beginnings of the die 5000 years ago. The Museum of City History shows the private collection of Jakob Gloger – which is one of the most comprehensive collections involving the cultural history of dice worldwide.

During this journey through the centuries, we will look at topics, such as the GDR, the World Wars, the Leipzig dice machine industry, the Middle Ages and ancient Egypt through the eyes of the die.

In addition to the history of world famous games, such as Ludo or Backgammon, you can also discover now forgotten hits, such as Bell and Hammer and other curious items and stories.

»The World as a Die – 5000 Years of Luck in Games« invites young and old to experience an interactive exhibition and to engage in play at numerous stations.
