Upheavals, crashes, new beginnings – as well as cyclical ups and downs: The history of the sports club Betriebssportgemeinschaft Chemie Leipzig is shaped by many aspects and events – it is rich in victories but also marked by setbacks and fateful twists. The multifaceted history of the club has always been connected with the history of Leutzsch, the district in which it is based, the development of Leipzig, and the societal circumstances under which football was played in five different political systems.
The exhibition (hosted jointly by BSG Chemie Leipzig and the Museum of City History Leipzig) at the studio in Haus Böttchergäßchen will focus on the history of BSG Chemie Leipzig and stories about it as mirrored in the city’s history. In addition, the exhibition will cover connections, developments and cross-connections between the club and the city. This exhibition has something to offer to fans both old and young, as well as to non-athletes and history lovers. Legendary trophies and souvenirs will be shown along with image and video material never seen before.
The exhibition and its accompanying programme were developed with the kind support of the city of Leipzig and sponsored by the Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in Germany.
