Sports Museum

The Sports Museum is currently working as a collection and documentation center. With a fund of over 90,000 objects, the city of Leipzig has one of the largest sports history collections in Germany, which is in demand with researchers nationally and internationally. The use of the library for research purposes is possible by telephone agreement.

In the permanent exhibition in the old town hall, an area is dedicated to the dimensions of the "sports city of Leipzig" and is open to the public.

For many years, the Leipzig City History Museum, which includes the sports history collection, has been trying to find a contemporary home for its own sports museum with exhibitions and sightseeing opportunities for guests. The former swimming stadium was chosen as the location for the future museum. Intensive planning processes are currently taking place for a new sports museum in this listed building to become a "campus in motion". The museum is looking for a close alliance with the adjacent new school building. The outlined ideas of anchoring the museum as a third place with an impact on the neighborhood and as a partner for the numerous and diverse sports and history clubs are unaffected by this.

Sports Route Leipzig

The city of Leipzig has a very long and varied sports tradition. Numerous buildings, squares or larger areas in the city are closely connected with regional, national and international sports history. In order to make these visible to the citizens of Leipzig and guests interested in sports history, the city of Leipzig, together with the Leipzig Museum of City History, developed the project Sportroute Leipzig (only in German).
